Job Description



Coordinates and participates in activities involved with procuring goods and services and oversees the property control functions for the Fort McDowell Enterprises – Casino. 


Essential functions may include the following tasks, knowledge, skills, and other characteristics. This list of tasks is ILLUSTRATIVE ONLY, and is not a comprehensive listing of all functions and tasks performed by positions in this class. 


  • Reviews requisitions
  • Negotiates with vendors to obtain best product or service pricing, value and delivery
  • Selects products for purchase and estimates values according to knowledge of market price
  • Determines method of procurement such as direct purchase or bid
  • Prepares purchase orders or requests for proposals and appropriate documentation
  • Reviews bid proposals and negotiates contracts within limitations and scope of authority
  • Maintains procurement records
  • Discusses defective or unacceptable good or services with users, vendors, and others to take corrective action
  • Approves invoices for payment in accordance with negotiated prices
  • Recommend and implement policies regarding purchasing systems and procedures
  • Monitors lead times, delivery of merchandise and cross checks vendor bids against vendor invoices
  • Prepares cost analysis and other financial reports as required
  • Perform other duties as assigned or required


  • Knowledge of purchasing practices, policies and techniques
  • Knowledge of a variety of goods and services used in the gaming center
  • Knowledge of public purchasing practices and related regulations
  • Skill in negotiation for purchasing of goods and services
  • Skill in analyzing costs and preparing reports
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining effective and cooperative working relationships with other departments of the Fort McDowell Gaming Center; vendors, other interested parties and the public
  • Must be proficient with Microsoft MS Office
  • Accounting experience preferred


  • BA or BS in Business Administration, Public Administration or related field and two years purchasing experience OR Associate’s Degree with 5 to 7 years purchasing experience
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain State/Tribal License (including extensive background check).
  • Must pass pre-employment drug test.
